Last year I talked about how Vermont passed a GMO labeling bill forcing ingredient labels to indicate all ingredients in any food product that come from Genetically Engineered crop. This was monumental for a couple reasons. Firstly, the bill was the first “stand-alone” state bill that passed, which means Vermont did not need neighboring states to also pass mandatory labeling laws before it became law; a caveat for the few states that passed labeling laws before Vermont. Secondly, and most importantly, the bill supports the vast majority of Americans who actually want to know what is in their food!

Although, when the Vermont bill passed I warned about the proposal of National level bills, aptly called the dark act (Deny Americans the Right to Know), to counter the state level bills. The dark act sputtered out, but the biotech industry (nor their front organizations like the powerful lobbyist conglomerate, Grocery Manufacturers Association) do not give up that easily when a grassroots movement threatens their very existence by passing state level laws. So, they lobbied for a dark act 2. Of course, both lobbyists and the politicians pushing this bill claimed it was a “compromise” to the state level bills.

However, why is there even a need to compromise?

The people want to know what is in the products they consume for nutrients. The state level politicians heard the people and passed a bill that reflected what they wanted. That should be it. Case closed. After all, knowing what you put in your body is a basic human right. Or should I say, knowing what is in the food we eat is a basic human right for any truly free society.

Nevertheless, here in America, the self-proclaimed “freest country on earth”, the citizens don’t have this freedom to know. Instead we must “compromise” with corporations and industries that want to hide what they put in our food out of fear.

The fear I am speaking of is losing market shares after people start avoiding products with GMO crops as ingredients.

And make no mistake, they clearly fear this.

They have tried to convince us — using their “corporate science”that is so predominate today — that GMO’s are safe and have the same nutritional levels as its organic counterparts.

However, the people have started seeing through this and correctly associate GMO crop, and the deadly chemical herbicides/pesticides/insecticides spread on them, with the skull and cross-bones.

The industry knows this.

If not, why not proudly proclaim your GMO crops are in foods?

The fact that they are trying this hard to keep us in the dark is all we need to know about GMO’s.

Moreover, the idea that a corporation has personhood is utterly ridiculous, in and of itself.

However, when a country advances to the point that corporations have the power to supersede the will of the people by forcing a “compromise” via national level politicians, that country is living under a repressive regime, built on corrupt systems meant to shackle the many and empower the few who deem themselves the “ruling class”.

This may seem like a harsh or exaggerated take. However, the people want to know what is in their food, but the industry has colluded with governmental agents to make national laws to undo what the people want.

How else could you possibly describe this situation?

Tyrannical, Orwellian, Totalitarian or Draconian are the only words I can find to explain this.

The bill passed though the senate last Thursday and is awaiting the president to sign it into law.

What the bill accomplishes

Ronnie Cumming, of,  gives a very good overview of this bill in a recent article stating it:

…eliminates mandatory GMO labeling and preempts the Vermont law with a convoluted and deceptive federal regime for QR codes and 1-800 numbers that is completely voluntary, with no firm guidelines for implementation, and no provisions whatsoever for enforcement. Perhaps even more outrageous, the legal definition of “bioengineered” foods under the new DARK Act means that 95 percent of the current GMO-tainted foods on the market, including foods made from Roundup-resistant and BT-spliced corn and soy, would never have to be identified.

To review, the bill:

  • Bans future state bill on GMO labeling and nullifies bills that already passed.
  • Gives complete power over labeling to the USDA and takes away state’s rights.
  • Will not actually identify GMO ingredients, instead it will use QR codes that you will have to either scan with our smartphones or look up the code online. Hardly ideal for lower-income families who can’t afford smartphones or the elderly that do not own them or know how to use them.
  • Most importantly, it uses language to allow most current GMO ingredients to not need to be labelled!!

Furthermore, There is a major problem with allowing the USDA control over labeling. The so-called regulatory agencies, like the USDA, FDA or EPA, are gatekeepers or protectors of the industries they claim to protect the people from. This is clearly seen by the very long history of a revolving door policy between industry and regulatory agency, something I wrote about in the second installment of my Monsanto series.

This is hardly a compromise. In reality, this bill is a voluntary labeling bill, meant to look like a mandatory labeling bill in hopes to appease the public.

This is yet another illustration of how our national politicians vote– not by what their constituents want, but instead, by how the lobbyist want them to. Anyone who looks at our political system with open eyes knows this.

After all, why would someone ever expect politicians to vote against corporations that line their pockets with untold amounts of money via “lobbying” or “campaign contributions”?

A dog does not bite the hand that feeds them, does it?!

It is no doubt disheartening for a bill like this to sail through both the house and the senate. It is even more disheartening to find out the biggest reason allowing it to.

The lobbyists for the deep pocketed biotech industry, who grease the pockets of national level politicians by the legal form of bribery (lobbying), were the first people who popped into my head after hearing the bill passed. However, the major reason it passed was because of big organic groups, stores, brands and distributors backing the bill written by, and for, the biotech industry.

Ronnie Cummings had this to say about what happened:

The growing list of Organic Traitors includes the head of Whole Foods Market, Walter Robb; Gary Hirschberg, the CEO of Stonyfield Farm and the pseudo-pro GMO labeling group Just Label It; the Environmental Working Group, represented by Scott Faber, former head lobbyist for the pro-biotech Grocery Manufacturers Association; UNFI, the largest wholesaler of natural and organic foods; and the OTA, led by “natural” brands such as Smuckers and White Wave, and represented by their Board Chair Melissa Hughes from Organic Valley.

Not all is lost

I have read blog after blog and article after article written by people pissed off about the betrayal. Undoubtedly, many of you reading this are mad or even in a state of dread thinking there is nothing we can do.

I, however, do not look at this as a lose.

I see it as a win.

But how in the world can I see this as a win?

Sure, by itself, the act passing is a set back; however, I do not see it as a BIG set back. In fact I see it as a mistake by the “ruling class”. To understand why I think this was a mistake that will ultimately backfire on the ruling class, we most dive a bit into the metaphysical.

Last year I wrote an article about needing a spiritual revolution of sorts to topple the “ruling class” and all their insidious inter-connected systems meant to make us completely dependent on them. I do not mean this in a strictly religious way– what I mean is we need to raise our collective consciousness to finally beat them.

This oligarchy (and make no mistake, it is an oligarchy. For those seeking more information on this, click on the second link in the paragraph above), who deems themselves the “ruling class” of the planet and pulls the societal strings from the shadows, via their use of their media like a weapon — a very fine tuned weapon — to keep us in a constant state of fear-based vibrational energies.

And they are very good at it.

For decades we have collectively been kept in a constant state of the lower vibrational fear-based energies, making us more easily controlled.

Think about it. If the populous is in a constant state fear they are far more likely to look towards the corrupted systems (in this particular example, the regulatory agencies and the government in general) for protection. This protection (real or just believed) brings a bit of solace, which you need when bombarded with fear-based energies. This process ensures their status quo is never challenged, they remain our rulers, which most of us are not even aware of… and we their chattel.

However, in a follow-up article to the before mentioned Spiritual Revolution, I spoke about things that are happening that show this revolution or paradigm shift has started. Meaning collectively, we are rising above the lower vibrational energetic sludge of fear-based energies, into the higher love-based energies. Another way to think of it is fear-based energies promote “service to self” type actions — selfish or self destructive actions. Whereas, love based energies promote “service to others” — selfless actions that look out for humanity.

Here is an excerpt showing examples that the fear based energies don’t have as great a hold on us as once before:

Events that would never be allowed to happen a few years ago are happening at an accelerated rate now. Examples are: Reports being published from NGO’s and trade unions exposing the corruption and insidious goals of trade agreements; newspapers are exposing governmental protection of the opium trade in Afghanistan; a respected peer-reviewed journal warning about the dangers of GMO crops and chemicals sprayed on them while calling for more independent testing and labeling any food product containing GMOs; and there has been a lot of reporting on the Russian scientists finding an immortal bacteria that may revolutionize many fields of medicine and cost Big Pharma massive amounts of money. These are just a few examples of things that have happened recently that show the paradigm shift is happening and the systems created by the “ruling class” to benefit themselves are failing.

In years past, people would have taken this blow and accepted it because living in a fear-based emotional state does this to you. Before, it was “we can’t do anything about it,” or “we just have to accept the unjust law”. However, more people are now standing up to ensure their collective voices won’t be silenced. The excerpt above shows people exposing things that could put their career or even their lives in jeopardy, yet they are doing it anyways.

Sure, this stuff happens all the time, brave people have existed forever; but I think it is more than that. It is not just random occurrences. People are standing up in the fields of science exposing corruption like we have never seen. And the same thing is happening with the media; particularly with the alternative media and sites overseas that are not owned by the ruling class.

Before they could hide their plans or actions.

Not anymore.

Most importantly, the people are standing up for their rights more than ever. Again, these things would not be seen in the past– certainly not at the rates we see today.

And we see this happening after the DARK act passed.

It started with the Organic Seed Growers and Trade Association (OSGATA), a farmer controlled national non-profit committed to “protecting, promoting, and developing the organic seed trade and its growers”, quickly withdrawing its membership from Organic Trade Association (OTA) after they backed the DARK act.

OSGATA was quite vocal about why they wanted out, as seen by what longtime OSGATA president, Jim Gerritsen said about the situations:

“It’s important for the world to understand that it was the Organic Trade Association that killed our state GMO labeling laws by backing Monsanto’s Stabenow-Roberts bill.

Gerritsen continued:

“It’s clear that Organic Trade Association has come under the control of a small group of lobbyists controlled by giant-food corporations that also own organic brands. In an effort to protect their own bottom lines and those of their parent companies, the reckless actions of these large parent-owned organic companies threaten the survival of organic farmers and the organic community we have all worked so hard for decades to build.”

“The Organic Trade Association can no longer be trusted and it’s clear that organic farmers can no longer condone this dubious trade association’s troubling behavior.”

Additionally, and more important still, it is not just the farmers who are standing up to the tyranny — the ordinary people are also standing up! Last Friday, right-to-know activist, representing over 100 organizations  delivered a petition signed by over 250,000 people to the president.

The petition was simple, don’t sign this treasonous bill.

This is a staggering number of signature considering the bill only passed the senates a few days before it was presented to the president!

Sure, the president may still sign it because 250,000 isn’t a lot in contrast to the 300 million (or so) Americans. They may still think we do not have the numbers and roll the dice by signing it. However, the spiritual revolution, paradigm shift, or what ever term you want to use, has started and only picking up steam.

Therefore, even if the President signs this bill, it is only a matter of time before the people stand up in droves demanding the law be overturned. For we have the numbers, and with that comes the true power– and when we stand up, the will of the people will be enforced and the “ruling class” overturned.

So, don’t fret dare readers, this is only a small set back. We, the people, will peacefully win this “labeling war” and gain our right to know. It is only a matter of how long before enough people realize what is happening and say enough is enough!
